In my childhood I had pet gerbils in my parents' house in Buochs. Later I wallpapered my bedroom with a lion poster and today, a lion's head decorates my helmet at the Olympic Games. Lions have always fascinated me because this animal symbolizes strength and courage. Qualities that will be inevitable in the next few days at my first Winter Olympics. The slope is breathtakingly beautiful, the snow grippy and aggressive. Wind and sand are the great unknowns at these Games.
February 1, billions of people celebrated the Chinese New Year. Not only in China, but also in other countries of East and Southeast Asia, the New Year is one of the most important holidays of the year. The Year of the Tiger has begun. Let's hope that the next few days will be under the sign of the lion. My anticipation increases with every day here in China.
